A family of five sustained injuries in a one car turnpike crash eight miles west of Donegal interchange on Sunday. The driver Mafeed A. Shamiyeh and his wife plus three children were treated at Frick Memorial hospital Mount Pleasant and released. The vehicle suffered about 300 dollars damage.
Pittsburgh chemist Garrett Henry Barnes Jr 32 and his wife Esther were injured when their auto skidded on Route 219 near Meyersdale and struck a truck carrying eggs. Barnes received a bruised forehead while his wife sustained multiple injuries and both were treated and released. The truck driver Charles Earl was not hurt and damage totaled about 650 for the car and 5 000 for the truck.
Fire destroyed an unoccupied three story frame farm house five miles south of Somerset in the Milford area early Sunday. Calls came in at 12 45 a m. Somerset firemen found only the foundation remaining. Damage estimated at 5000 dollars. Cause under investigation. Firemen extinguished embers and saved a nearby shed. The former owner was Mrs. Mabel Gross of South Edgewood Avenue.
In Porterville California a pedestrian aiming for a taxi mistakenly entered a red and white car. The driver revealed as Fire Chief Ross Gardner who ordered the man out. Gardner then had his official car painted all white.
Arthur McGonigle the Republican governor candidate attracted four veteran Democratic supporters during a Fayette county stop. Charles Dean C J Newhard John W Rankin and Dr H D Minerd joined GOP clinic signaling cross party backing. Democratic leaders remained confident in Mayor David Lawrence of Pittsburgh.
Dr. William H. Dosch and Dr. Richard F. Gambino of Somerset joined 42 optometrists from Western Pennsylvania West Virginia Maryland and Ohio at a one day clinic at the Penn Sheraton in Pittsburgh sponsored by the Contact Lens Assn of Optometrists.
