Merle Vought a 49 year old Berlin R D farmer ended his life with a 22 calibre rifle. Coroner A M Uphouse cited melancholia and threats to self for over a week. State police noted his July 26 departure from home to kill himself and searchers found him in nearby woods. He shot himself after returning from haying and died at Somerset Community Hospital after his bullet lodged in his brain. He leaves five children, oldest 18, youngest about five.
