Soda Springs Hosts Fireworks and Children’s Sports on Independence Day
The 1929 Soda Springs Fourth celebration features a large fireworks display the town claims is the best in southern Idaho. Activities begin at 10 AM with expanded children's sports and a 11 AM address by Attorney Merrill of Pocatello. An afternoon program includes a 1 PM start for more children’s events and a 1:30 PM prize ball game offering $125, followed by multiple boxing bouts led by Harold Hawkswood and Eldon Waters. Loyd Thompson leads the Soda Springs band, and a Stampede park dance closes the day with daylight fireworks showings anticipated throughout.

Potter suffers bruises after motorcycle plunge near town
Arthur Potter returned from a Salt Lake trip to find injuries after a high dive from the motorcycle two miles east of town. The fall occurred when his trousers tangled in the brake mechanism. Larsen also injured but less severely. Potter offered no complaint. Review No. 5, W. B. A. initiation set for Wednesday June 26. all members urged to attend.

V Conkie Appointed County Commissioner
Governor Baldridge announced G. McConkie of Soda Springs will join the board of county commissioners to succeed the late James Moore in the first district. McConkie, a prominent stockman, was chosen on a citizen recommendation after Moore won the Republican nomination with 151 votes. McConkie had 133 and Otto Peterson 103 in August.

Large stock of whisky found by county officers
Sheriff Frank Ellis and Deputies White with Sheriff Harry Meppen and Deputy Dan Owen recovered about 100 gallons of whisky on Edward Johnson’s Narrows Dip ranch near the Caribou Bonneville county line. Alvin Reeves, partner in operation, was bound over to federal court on a $1000 bond but unable to furnish it. Reeves is held at the Hotel d Ellis awaiting arraignment. Johnson’s ranch yielded 24 empty barrels and liquor samples were kept. Franklin County officers traced the operation to aid another inquiry.

K B K Meets For Popcorn Sales and Train Viewing
The K B K division met Friday at Lois Williams home to make popcorn halls sold at Idanha theatre Friday and at the Stampede park dance Saturday to defray travel costs for members attending a short course summer school in Pocatello. Refreshments were served. The group viewed the Union Pacific old time train arrival in Soda Springs on Tuesday. Mrs J P Wanamaker of Inkom visited Soda Springs earlier in the week.

Miss Portia Smedley returned to Soda Monday after spending a week in Salt Lake with her father. A H Caine and family have arrived in Soda to spend the summer and are located in the Art Lau home. Miss June Barnard left Thursday for Brigham City Utah for an indefinite visit with her cousin Mrs Maud Hudson.
