Spraberry Well Indicated in Dawson County
Cities Service Oil reports a Spraberry discovery at No. 1 B Leverett, 10 miles NW of Lamesa in Dawson County. Oil flowed on a four hour test, with gas surfacing in seven minutes and oil in two hours. The project flowed 24 barrels of oil in two hours, with gravity 38 degrees and gas oil ratio 348 to 1. Top of Spraberry at 7 430 feet datum minus 4 366 feet. The Well originally contracted to 12 500 feet for Ellenburger test and may be deepened. The drillsite is about 25 miles NW of the Spraberry Deep field in SE Dawson County, where the first Spraberry production opened.

British Speed Demon Dies In Boat Explosion
On Loch Ness Scotland September 29 the jet propelled speedboat Crusader exploded sending British speed ace John Rhodes Cobb to his death at about 200 miles an hour as he attempted a world hydroplane speed record. Witnesses said Cobb disappeared in a spray and wreckage was scattered but four pieces were visible before sinking. His wife watched in horror as the crash occurred.

A 59 year old Tulsa man is jailed in Delta Colorado as inquest opens into the fatal shooting of Night Marshal John Stiff 55 Paonia Colorado. Sheriff Wilcox says no charges yet pending the inquest outcome. Stitt was shot when he went to Mary Ruth Griffin 20 to sign a complaint the man claimed to be her husband. Paonia police had learned the Texan allegedly forced the Griffin woman at gunpoint for a ride. The woman said they appeared to be married in Cheyenne Wyoming in 1950 but the ceremony she called illegal.
