Texas Republicans raised 1.3 million at a Dallas dinner for gubernatorial candidate Bill Clements. About 1,300 backers paid 1000 per plate to hear former President Gerald Ford and former California Governor Ronald Reagan praise Clements and blast the Carter administration. Reagan drew the louder applause praising competence and five guiding words: family work neighborhood freedom.
