Teachers to be Honored at Snyder Banquet
More than 200 Snyder school teachers will be honored at 7 30 p m tomorrow at the annual Chamber of Commerce businessman teacher appreciation banquet in the high school cafeteria. Clayton Rand will be main speaker. Wayland Holt will be master of ceremonies. The invocation will be by Rev Charles Spivey and Bob Clinton will provide entertainment. Dr Wilton Jones and Dr Cecil Yarbrough will participate in welcoming and introducing. Tickets are $2 and available at the chamber office before 5 p m Monday.

Jury Dismissed In Maude Donaldson Estate Suit
In 132nd District Court Judge Sterling Williams recessed the civil case involving Maude Donaldson's estate and the Donaldson Ranch south of Snyder until Thursday. Five parties remain, with attorneys continuing settlements as a new jury panel is to report at 9 a.m. for other cases.

One Dies Two Hurt In House Fire Here
A house fire at 1211 Twenty-eighth Street killed William Morgan Ballinger 59 and injured Billy Cauble about 1 AM. Neighbors pulled out Cauble and John Brock who were overcome by smoke. Police and fire units battled flames with multiple trucks and water from nearby plugs.

The first norther of the season drenched Snyder and surrounding counties with up to 2.5 inches of rain amid 58 degree winds. Rain totals varied from .4 to 2.5 inches across Scurry County with benefits to cotton and grain fields and pasture lands. Severe storms declined but two Sweetwater Junior High girls were killed by lightning with several others hospitalized as a blast of weather moved through the region.
