Bids include thirty two section 12 inch signals at 2358 dollars and ten flashing controllers with clocks at 4600 dollars. The project aims to cut costs below the 12 000 dollar estimate while sharing expenses.
Retiring Snyder resident engineer Homer Ray is honored with a plaque by County Judge Preston Wilson after 41 years with the Texas Highway Department. Ray's successor, N A Billingsley, is praised as the department’s staff gathers from Abilene and Hamlin for the morning ceremony at Snyder Country Club.

Former United Mine Workers leader W A Boyle was charged with murder in the 1969 killings of Joseph A Yablonski and his wife and daughter. A federal indictment also accuses him of conspiring to deprive Yablonski of union rights, naming nine unindicted co conspirators.
Tropical Storm Delia soaked Snyder with .76 inch of rain by 7am as it moved inland after offshore, flooding 140 Baytown homes and forcing 1000 residents from a subdivision. The storm disrupted the Texas coast for four days and drenched areas from Texas to Arkansas.
