A 140 day Texas legislative session ends at midnight amid unresolved issues. House-Senate conference committees seek compromise on liquor by the drink taxes and redistricting. A looming ethics law and a constitutional redistricting board are in play. The $7.13 billion two year budget awaits final approval.
A Memorial Day Mass is planned at St Isadores Church for Juan Corona his family and 23 transients whose bodies have been found in graves among peach trees on the JL Sullivan ranch near Yuba City. Corona faces 10 murder charges with more possible. Sheriff Whitaker orders a 25 man hunt across adjoining ranches as diggers probe remaining sites.

The region experiences generally fair conditions in extreme west Texas with variable clouds elsewhere through Tuesday. Saigon reports 54 NVA killed and 16 South Vietnamese wounded with no Vietnamese fatalities.
Mrs Matte Minor 81 died Sunday in Methodist Hospital Lubbock after living in Ira then Tyler for 38 years. She married Palmer Minor in 1905, who died in 1918. Surviving daughter Mrs Ewell Harris Tyler. sons James Ira Edwin Snyder. 8 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren. Burial Ira Cemetery under Bell-Seale with pallbearers named.

More than 17 000 Western Union employees prepare to strike at midnight EDT after rejecting the company's final two year proposal. Union negotiators say the AFL CIO group seeks a 16 percent annual raise, while Western Union offers 10 percent per year. negotiations paused as workers returned home.
Heavy rains over Thursday to Saturday boosted Lake J. B. Thomas by 6 700 acre feet and Lake E V Spence by 9 600 acre feet with totals rising toward 19 000 acre feet for CRMWD. Lake Thomas elevation reached 2212 11 feet as Moss Creek reservoir added 300 acre feet and local stock tanks filled.
