U2 Recon Jet Crashes in West Germany During Test Flight
A U S Air Force U2 high altitude reconnaissance jet crashed near Winterberg West Germany during navigation equipment tests. Captain Robert Pendleman 30 from Tucson Arizona parachuted to safety and is in good condition at Wiesbaden hospital. The unarmed aircraft based temporarily at Wethersfield England was not taking photographs. An Air Force spokesman said five such planes were temporarily based in Britain.

One dead and three injured after a head on collision on State Highway 350 seven miles southwest of Ira at 7 20 p m Wednesday. Roger Anthony Welch 23 of Midland died at Methodist Hospital from multiple critical injuries. Linda Hightower 25 of Clint and her children Jody 9 and Ace 2 sustained serious injuries.
