The court ruled broadcasters may not be forced to accept paid public issue advertisements. The decision overturns a circuit ruling and limits government oversight of day to day broadcast operations. Also today the court ruled some warrantless police searches constitutional and upheld legal fees for Yablonski's union case.

County Commissioners accepted the apparent low bid of 30881 dollars from Treanor Equipment Company of Abilene for a bulldozer to be used in Precinct . Other bids included 41000 dollars from Consolidated of Abilene and 43000 dollars from Plains Equipment of Odessa.
Snyder School Trustees awarded a $1.8108 million contract to J W Cooper Construction Co of Odessa for a new building project. The board also approved full-day kindergarten for the 1973 74 term after a special session with all members present. The base bid was the lowest of four proposals and came in well below prior estimates. An additional $3700 will add ceramic tile in hallways.
In a dramatic Capitol vote Speaker Price Daniel Jr. blocked a $44 million public school finance bill near session end. The move aligns with Briscoe and Hobby against reform push while lawmakers passed bills on death penalty, marijuana sentences, and lobbying disclosures.
Saigon in principle accepts a detailed timetable for a true cease-fire worked out in Paris by Kissinger and Tho. The plan calls for both sides to halt shooting, with a U S air ban, then commanders to stop fire, observers deployed, mine-clearing and economic talks to resume, and zones of control to be set within months.
Funeral services for Mrs Helen Minton 67 will be held Wednesday at the Bell Seale Chapel with Rev Ken Andress and Rev Jack Riley officiating. Burial follows in Snyder Cemetery under Bell Seale Funeral Home direction. Mrs Minton native of Kansas lived in Scurry County 27 years. Survivors include husband Alvis Minton. stepdaughter Sheri Alford. stepson Clarence Minton. sisters Mrs Hildura King and Mrs Martha Gorke. brothers Dale Sandell and Lawrence Sandell. three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
James Robert Hurd, 20, facing murder charges in the case of Elizabeth Goodlett, 16, was at a pretrial in 132nd District Court. Judge Wayland Holt scheduled the trial. Hurd pleads not guilty. Goodlett's body was found March 10 near Snyder at the David Dillah farm home. autopsy shows neck and chest stab wounds. Hurd is held on $75,000 bond after indictment March 15 following a combined sheriff, highway patrol, and Texas Rangers investigation.
The United States and 12 NATO allies urged Britain and Iceland to exercise utmost restraint in the cod war. At a North Atlantic Council meeting, the group noted Iceland's demand that NATO press Britain to remove warships protecting trawlers beyond the 12 mile limit and cited risk to the Icelandic base monitoring Soviet submarines. The call followed an Icelandic gun boat shelling of the trawler Everton within the 50 mile limit.
John D Handy 22 of 3112 Avenue T was fatally injured when his car lurched under a semi trailer in Fort Worth. Firemen freed him from wreckage he died about 30 minutes after the mishap. Funeral plans at Bell Seale Funeral Home. He is survived by wife Betty Hall and son John D Handy Jr with parents Mr and Mrs George Handy formerly Snyder residents now in Pine Bluff Arkansas.
