Wilson Quits As Associate Court Justice
AUSTIN Willis Wilson announced his resignation as associate justice of the State Supreme Court effective Friday to devote full time to his bid for attorney general. The 44 year old veteran of World War II said he leaves with reluctance to meet Texas needs for vigorous enforcement of laws. Governor Shivers can appoint a successor for the remaining seven months. Wilson, among three opponents, argues Texas requires a mature trial lawyer to manage the attorney general’s office and its vast property and education interests. Other candidates include Tom Moore of Waco Ross Carlton and Curtis E. Hill of Dallas.

Three Are Sentenced On Theft Charges In Canyon
Kellis Wilkinson 18 John S Jones 37 and Jessie Edward Russell 27 pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and were sentenced by County Judge Edgar Taylor to 30 days in the county jail on each count to run concurrently. Wayland Holt county attorney prosecuted and Howard Gibbons sheriff's deputy arrested them after days of work on the case. The theft involved four wheels tires and tubes from a trailer owned by Kenneth Smith and a tractor battery from J C Sterling in the Canyon community around March 27.

State Man Admits Robbery Slaying in Texas Road Case
Clarence Edward Young, a 25 year old crane operator, told Wichita police he stabbed Robert Boyd Chapman 14 times on a Texas road in March, robbed him of 19 dollars, and dumped the body in a ditch. Chapman’s body was found near Canyon, Texas, and Young, 6 feet 7 and 275 pounds, identified the victim and admitted hitchhiking from Lewiston Idaho. He faces a first degree murder warrant in Randall County Texas and was to be returned there after an all night stakeout.
