Public school days end tonight for 157 Snyder High students who will march across the stage at 8 o'clock for commencement. Larry Williams is valedictorian and will deliver the address. Toni Best is salutatorian with the salutatory talk. M. E. Stanfield will present the graduates and Max West will confer diplomas. Arthur A. Smith of First National Bank in Dallas will give the commencement address. he previously led the SMU Economics Department from 1938 to 1950 and has held multiple academic and civic roles. He is a noted public speaker and has served with numerous national and local organizations.

Deadly Shell Is Removed After Fort Hood Team Action

The Texas heat wave continued with a Monday high of 100 degrees the year’s hottest reading. A 15 year old, Fred Syring of Alice, died from heat prostration, and Johnny Baugh, 35, a Dallas worker, suffered a heat stroke but was in fair condition the next day. Dawn temps varied from 59 at Dalhart to 78 at Galveston.

Estranged husband surrenders after machinegun terror in Dallas

Bryant Contract Cleared by Attorney General Wilson
Atty. Gen. Will Wilson stated Paul Bryant’s last year contract as Texas A&M head coach and athletic director was legal and that no further action is planned. Death of Cardinal Stritch in Rome After Stroke
Samuel Cardinal Stritch, 70, archbishop of Chicago, died in Rome after a blood clot led to arm amputation and a subsequent stroke. His body lay in state at the North American Pontifical College and will be moved to St Ignatius Church for a Thursday funeral Mass before burial in Chicago.
