Memorial Day services were held today at Snyder Cemetery with members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliaries. Declassified cables detail Nazi efforts to back an isolationist platform at the 1940 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia. A well known Republican congressman was to host 50 isolationist colleagues for a three day visit and help publish pro isolationist ads. Funds for the plan were estimated between 60 000 and 80 000 dollars 1960s era. The documents do not name the congressman though Hamilton Fish Jr. recalls the ad.
