A three year extension of the GI home loan program was proposed in an amendment to the omnibus housing bill. Sen Lehman with Sen Hill and Sparkman sponsors the measure to avert a slowdown in home building. The plan would cover VA loan guarantee and direct loans. VA data show 4.26 million GI loans underwritten by end 1955 totaling $3.3 billion. Public housing faces the main fight with authorization for about 135,000 new units yearly. Eisenhower seeks 35,000 annually for two years.

Roby Burial Held For 98 Year Old Roby Resident
Mrs. Lina E. Edwards 98, longtime Roby resident, died early Tuesday. She and husband Z. J. Edwards operated the Edwards Hotel for 30 years and were married in 1882 in Crawford. Funeral was to be at Roby Methodist Church with burial in Roby Cemetery under Weathersbee Funeral Home. She leaves three daughters, one son, a brother, 30 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

The 47th Northwest Texas Methodist Conference session reports membership at 102 394, the highest in history. In four years 16 152 joined, mission gifts total 1 063 000, construction 6 500 000, plant value over 32 million dollars, and the new Methodist Hospital at Lubbock valued at 4 500 000 was added to conference operations.

Memorial Services Slated Here Sunday
A memorial service will be held at Snyder Cemetery at 5 p.m. Sunday for Memorial Day weekend with a joint service by the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliaries. About 125 veteran graves will be marked with flags. 50 more graves exist in county cemeteries. Buddy Poppy Day is Saturday in Snyder with sales starting at 8:30 a.m. A color guard leads the service, and proceeds aid disabled veterans and the national home for veterans’ children.

Services For Sgt. Glen Holmes Announced
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church for Sgt. Glen Holmes of Snyder killed in a Monday automobile accident at Oakdale Louisiana. Holmes enlisted in 1948 served in Korea earned the Combat Infantry Badge National Defense Service Medal UN and Korean Service medals. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery with a National Guard tribute. The body arrives by train at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow and remains at the parents home until the service. Bell Funeral Home in charge.

Living costs rise slightly in April boosting wages
The Labor Department reports a 0.2 percent April rise in the living costs index to 114.9 with higher food prices. Mrs. A. F. Weaver and her 13 year old son John were hurt in a two car crash near Merkel Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Weaver had a dislocated elbow and facial injuries after her car collided with A. D. Fulton Merkel city marshal. John Weaver sustained a knee injury. Fulton suffered possible concussion and internal injuries and was taken to Sadler Clinic Hospital in Merkel.
