The Dallas Market Center announces its Christmas Gift Show will run July 3 drawing buyers from across the United States and several foreign countries. Retailers prepare early and consumers may follow.
Texas Agriculture Department data show farm applications account for about 56 percent of pesticide use while 44 percent comes from small city and town users. Disposal of empty containers is highlighted as a major issue with advice to wrap and crush small containers before disposal. The report also notes coaching changes in Texas schools involving Jack Gray and mentions regional Class A teams Sonora and Eldorado in the same district.
Texans vote liquor by the drink to a landslide win while Congress acts to end a coast to coast rail walkout. Nixon signs measures ending the strike and approving a 13.5 percent wage hike for the signalmen.

Snyder reports 7 am temperature 49 degrees while highs range from 72 to 95 across North Central and South Central regions. Conditions vary from clear to partly cloudy with chances of showers in Southeast, and cooler nights across the state.
Scurry County voters rejected all four proposed amendments on the State Constitution in Tuesday’s ballot. The closest was Amendment No. 4 on water quality, 448 to 431. others fell 631 to 255, 594 to 292, and 527 to 361. Turnout was under 900 votes.
Borden County voters turn down all four amendments in Tuesday’s election as 116 ballots were cast. Amendment 1 fails 90 to 25, Amendment 2 loses 29 to 8, Amendment 3 goes down 84 to 32, and Amendment 4 is defeated 63 to 50.
Gov Preston Smith signed a law creating a full status Texas State Technical Institute campus at a former U S Air Force radar facility near Sweetwater in Nolan County after three years of planning. Roy Dugger, head of TSTI in Waco, called the site a campus in its own right.
James Waters forty three an aircraft maintenance engineer at Winston Field Scurry County Airport was killed instantly after 9 am when hit by a propeller near the gasoline pumps north of the main hangar. He died at the scene and funeral plans were pending. Survived by Grace Blythe Waters wife a daughter Sandra Matthews son James Waters sister Ruby Tyler and five brothers. Waters a member of the Apostolic Faith Church. Also noted were severe storms with tornadoes in the Midwest and Plains injuring one and damaging farms near Dearborn Missouri.

The Texas Railroad Commission reduced the June oil allowable to 75.4 percent of potential, the second drop in a row and the lowest since last August. Maximum crude output will be 3,606,943 barrels daily, down 68,913 from May’s 77.2 percent. Nominations total 3,348,277 b/d with Diamond Shamrock cutting 4,000 b/d last minute. Bureau of Mines forecasts June demand at 3,380,000 b/d, up 20,000 from May. Major buyers’ June requests vary, with three seeking more, seven equal, four less than May. Commission Chairman Byron Tunnell cites May 7 stocks at 106.7 million barrels, up 1.9 million year over year. Major buyers’ June nominations show Amoco 420,000. ARCO 210,000. Chevron 67,450.
