Snyder High School students Bobby Wright and Dewey Grinslade won the Plymouth trouble shooting contest in Lubbock and will compete in June at Indianapolis. The team solved a tampered Plymouth car in 28 minutes 15 seconds, earning a $4,000 scholarship and potential further funds, with tools and engine packages awarded at the national finals. Lake J B Thomas Rebounds After Heavy Rains
Last week’s rain raised Lake J B Thomas near Snyder, Big Spring, and Odessa by about four feet, adding over 15 000 acre feet of water. The reservoir stood at 2233.34 feet now versus 2229 44 last week as runoff tapered off. One of the lake’s largest catches of the past three years followed the rainfall.

Court Rules On Marijuana Laws
The Supreme Court unanimously overturned Timothy Leary’s conviction, ruling that federal marijuana laws could violate his right against self incrimination. Justice Harlan said the face of the statutes allowed legal acquisition only with a transfer tax, risking state prosecutions and exposing Leary to punishment if he disclosed unregistered marijuana.
