A Madisonville man has been charged with starting the fire that destroyed the Madison County courthouse on Sunday. Authorities allege arson tied to the blaze and ongoing investigations are referenced by officials.
The Lamar Junior High School choirs present a 7 30 p m spring concert in the high school auditorium with no admission charge. The Boys Choir first division UIL winner performs Ave Maria Viva Tutte and Holy Holy Holy. The Girls Choir sings So Sweetly Remembered Golden Trumpets and N I Est Bel Et Bon. The Mixed Choir performs Every Night When the Sun Goes In Charlotteown Consider Yourself Jamaica Farewell They Call the Wind Maria I Will Lay Me Down in Peace and Fa Uno Canzone. Madrigal Singers Seventh Grade Girls Choir and all choirs close with From Sea to Shining Sea.

Texas Rangers arrested 24 men and five women during a labor union demonstration at Trophy Farms entrance near Rio Grande City as UFWOC AFL C10 pressures for $1.25 minimum wage. Farm spokesmen say $1, melons perish, and Mexican workers had previously picketed on the Mexican side to deter crossings.
The Railroad Commission kept the June oil production allowable at 33.8 percent of potential, the same as May, allowing a maximum of 3,046,218 barrels daily. Bureau of Mines projected Texas crude demand at 2,880,000 barrels daily, up 50,000, while major purchasers nominated 2,741,990 barrels per day, up 24,082.
The Snyder Chamber of Commerce published holiday dates and urged cooperation. It notes observance is discretionary for organizations and businesses due to existing regulations, listing Memorial Day May 30 Independence Day July 4 Labor Day September 4 Thanksgiving November 23 Christmas December 25 and New Year’s Day January 1.
Weather report for North Central and Northeast Texas shows increasing clouds tonight and Friday with scattered thundershowers Friday afternoon and a high of 86 to 90. Northwest Texas stays partly to mostly cloudy with cooler north areas, highs 75 to 90 and possible showers Friday. Southeast and South Central Texas warm with highs 78 to 95 and 82 to 96 respectively, with varying overnight lows.
Police stormed the Southern University campus in Houston after a fatal shooting of Patrolman Lewis Kuba and a four hour riot left 16 treated for minor injuries. About 488 students were arrested, five charged with rioting with bonds set at 10000 each.
Snyder hosts annual Junior High Band Concert at 7 p.m. tonight in the high school. The 7th grade and concert bands from Travis and Lamarr will perform. Admission is free.
A U S Army platoon in the central highlands near the Cambodian border called artillery fire on their own position after engaging North Vietnamese forces and becoming cut off from allied units. There was no word from the platoon near midnight. The action involved elements of the 4th Infantry Division about 90 miles west of Pleiku.
