The Texas Supreme Court will hear whether newspapers radio and TV stations can sue to open government meetings with a June 13 hearing on the Abilene Reporter-News KRBC TV and Jerry Shackelford appeal. A legislative bill aims to grant media standing to enforce open meetings rules.
The SDN column notes Roy L. Dunlap once Snyder City Manager is among eight Naval Reserve officers promoted to Rear Admiral. West Texas remains mostly cloudy and warm with a chance of showers or thunderstorms through Thursday as highs reach mid 80s to lower 90s and lows in the 50s to 60s. Big Bend areas near 100 degrees possible with temperatures steady through Thursday.
In Austin Senator Bill Patman spoke through the night trying to block a bill raising legal home loan interest from 10 to 12 percent. He urged the midnight express be stopped claiming it harms Texans while debates with sponsor Senator Bill Meier continued in a sparsely filled Senate chamber.
Snyder officials join delegations from Houston Austin Abilene and Snyder for a Texas Highway Commission session May 21 to discuss a Port to Plains highway route along U S 84 from Lubbock through Snyder to Abilene and on to Austin.
Officers of two teachers organizations were introduced and service pins presented at Snyder Public Schools spring awards banquet. Wanda Hudgins is 1979 80 president of the local Texas State Teachers Association unit. 30 year pins went to Alice Birdwell and Faye Deffebach.
