Kennedy Plans Trip to Northern Alabama Amid Birmingham Tensions

President Kennedy intends to fly to northern Alabama this Saturday despite federal troops being sent to Birmingham to quell unrest. Scurry County approves seal coating bid and other actions

The Scurry County Commission accepted Frank R B Hodges low bid 19327 40 for seal coating in precincts 1 and 3. Other bids ranged 20069 50 to 21202 7. The court also swore in as board of equalization and discussed Kennedy Wallace Alabama events and Kennedy plan to visit Muscle Shoals Tuscumbia Sheffield Florence for TVA 30th anniversary. Sid Reeder Rites Today

Funeral services for Sid Reeder 56 longtime sheriff of Borden County will be held at 3 p.m. in the Borden County High School gym. Reeder died of a heart attack Saturday night at his home near Gail and was pronounced dead on arrival at a Lamesa hospital. He helped preserve county history and helped designate the old tail in Gail as a historic site. Higgenbothan Funeral Home of Lamesa is in charge.

House Bill Seeks to Keep Texas A&M All Male

The Texas House voted 122 to 14 to allow Rep. K. Edwards of Pattonville to introduce a bill restoring all male admission at Texas A&M during the summer session. Edwards warns the school could lose about $1 million in donations if the board's prior decision to admit women stands. A similar bid by Rep. Will Smith failed, and a House committee will hear a resolution tonight to push A&M back to all male admissions.

Woman Flyer Betty Miller Receives Civic Reception in Brisbane

Betty Miller 37 the first woman to fly solo across the Pacific from California received a civic reception in Brisbane. She plans to fly home as a passenger, with a Tuesday departure to Sydney and then undecided return date.
