The Texas Railroad Commission raises SACROC Unit base allowable oil output from 53000 to 61000 barrels per day effective June 1 under statewide proration. Standard Oil of Texas requested the increase as SACROC Unit Operator at a formal Austin hearing on April 22.
The Railroad Commission set a daily SACROC Unit allowance of 174 270 barrels based on 1 256 wells at 111 barrels per day plus 25 percent. The top basic per well for Kelly Snyder Field outside SACROC was raised from 100 to the higher level. Open support from SACROC owners and royalty holders aided the approval, expected to boost area royalty income and oil service activity.

Washington told House Interior committee that West Texas faces urgent water needs and must import water from outside the state within 15 years. Joe G. Moore Jr of the Texas Water Development Board urged regional planning to study importing water and supplement supplies for irrigation in the High Plains.
The projection shows 8.1 million acres irrigated in 1980 and 8.6 million in 2020 if sufficient water is imported at reasonable cost. Without imports the 2020 figure could fall to 2.2 million acres, with substantial economic losses. A regional import plan might address Rio Grande water deficits under the compact, currently about one million acre feet.
The forecast covers North Central to Southwest Texas with showers and thunderstorms tonight and Friday. Temperatures range from lows in the 40s to 70s and highs from the mid 60s to upper 70s, varying by region including northeast and southeast areas.
