Gov Bill Clements said he changed his mind and would back a bill to raise the 10 percent cap on mortgage rates. He argued the move protects Texas from money flight and helps homeowners and the construction trades avoid a broader crisis and job losses.
Washington AP reports the Senate Energy Committee reversed course and rejected the Carter administration’s standby gasoline rationing plan by a 12 to 4 vote. Despite last minute changes aimed at gaining votes, the panel defeated the proposal amid expectations of a tight vote.

Snyder Public School students earned numerous awards at state industrial arts contests in Waco. Of 17 senior high projects, 15 finished in first, second, or third. two seniors placed high in written tests. Senior highs led with winners Wayne Davis, Rudy Garza, and Eric Marble. other top finishes included multiple second and third places across both senior and junior high groups.
Winners announced at the Scurry County Museum in Western Texas College. Chris Lynch won Best in Show in the public schools art exhibit with high school two dimensional Sid Sullenger took the high school two dimensional title and Eddie Vruegas won the three dimensional award Quan Pham led juniors in two dimensional design Kami Burkett won junior high three dimensional design juror was Terry Gilbreth of the Diamond M Museum.
The Snyder City Council last night approved two zoning changes and a tax board, named four members for the zoning board of adjustments, and re elected Mayor Pro Tem Milton Ham. Mayor John Fagin appointed Bryce Booker to the motel tax committee, and L D Womble announced grant plans to fund school drug abuse prevention via a Tri County Alcoholism and Abuse Council program. Bids for water treatment plant supplies were accepted.
Washington AP reported Mid Treasury Secretary Blumenthal forecast inflation at least eight percent for the coming year while warning high prices will persist. He noted projections show the rate could be well above eight percent, and he hoped it would not rise far beyond that.
The rule states that to operate a moped in Snyder a license is required and the rider must be at least 15 years old. The text confirms that a license is mandatory and 15 is the minimum age for moped operation.
Readings show a 7 am temperature of 66 with no precipitation. Monday highs around 9 and lows near 56 contrast with warmer readings later. An executive session is on the agenda to consult with the attorney on a legal matter.
