Texas Storm Toll Rises With Floods and Drownings
Vicious storms swept Texas killing at least four people in the Cleburne area as heavy rain flooded cities from Fort Worth to Dallas. High water rescues numbered in the dozens across Dallas and suburbs while Everman and Kennedale evacuated more than 80 families as Chambers Creek rose. Fort Worth fire crews handled over 30 high water calls and dangerous flooding extended into Wednesday morning.

Lake Thomas Boosted By Runoff From Borden Dawson Showers
Water from showers in Borden and Dawson counties raised Lake Thomas on the Colorado River Municipal Water District reservoir, with the level at 2229.32 feet at 10 am, about 14 feet higher than last Saturday. The Colorado River continued to supply most of the inflow, while Bull Creek remained scarce south of the lake and major rainfall occurred to the north.

Top Teacher Banquet Honors Scurry County Duo
Awards presented by the Scurry County Unit of Texas State Teachers Association and Snyder Classroom Teachers Association highlighted the annual banquet. Snyder School personnel received eight awards including retirements and a 30 year service pin for Edward Armstrong. Bruce Land received a certificate for outstanding service. A later school play by SHS Drama Dept titled A Man For All Seasons was performed with a public showing planned for May 13 in the Snyder High School auditorium.

Snyder City Council Accepts Multiple Bid Awards
The Snyder City Council approved bids for water and sewer lines from Western Industrial Supply and Can-Tex Industrial, purchased a 1969 Oldsmobile ambulance coach from Summer Funeral Car Co, a fire truck chassis from Wilson Motors, and a Burroughs billing machine. Officials reappointed Lyle Deffebach and Rex Fields to the Water District board, and authorized water service by Union- Fluvanna Authority.
