In Carson California Raymond Lepage and his wife Mary Jo heard a night prowler and after Lepage handed his pistol to her she searched the house. A shadowy figure appeared and Mary Jo fired wounding Lepage slightly in the left cheek. The incident follows a separate report on civil rights funding and plans, noting the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Mexican American Legal Defense Fund announcements in San Antonio and New York. Ford Foundation officials discussed possible California office and multi year grant support.
Mrs. Coretta Scott King has signed a contract with Holt Rinehart and Winston to write a life story of her late husband Martin Luther King Jr. Publication is planned for early 1969.
