Primaries Set in Scurry County Voters Cast for Party Noms

Scurry County voters head to the polls for Democratic and Republican primaries. On the Republican ballot is a presidential preference poll featuring Goldwater Rockefeller Smith and Stassen while a Senate contest among Bush Cox Davis and Morris looms. Democrats race for governor US House 17th District Sheriff Tax Assessor Collector and county commissioner seats with many contenders and 20 polling sites open 8 am to 7 pm.

Republicans urge last resort military action against Castro

A GOP Critical Issues Council urged the Johnson administration to declare readiness to use force to remove communism from Cuba. The plan calls for lifting curbs on anti Castro raiders and creating in exile government in Latin America to rally 300,000 Cuban refugees for liberation. Bantam Hen Shelters Rare Whooping Crane Chick

In Lafayette Louisiana a one pound Japanese silkie hen incubated and mothered a fragile half pound egg until the world's 49th whooping crane chick hatched at the Wildlife Research substation. The chick emerged Wednesday and is reported in good condition.

Precinct conventions set near polling places for both parties

Democratic precinct conventions will begin at 2 p m Saturday near polling places while Republican conventions start at 7 30 p m near polling sites. Spokesmen say a poll tax or exemption stamped to show voting in the primary is required for admission. Republicans voting in consolidated boxes will attend the convention at the box where they voted.

Washington AP reports a clash among faith leaders on amending the Constitution to allow prayers in public schools. Opponents include the American Jewish religious community and Pennsylvania clergy. supporters come from the National Association of Evangelicals and others.

Bank Robbed in Whitney Texas Story

Three men robbed the First National Bank of Whitney around 9 30 am in an old model DeSoto. They parked in a side alley and entered the bank with pistols to intimidate customers and the cashier Joseph Cross to obtain about 15 000 to 20 000 dollars.

Race Hate Hinted In NY Stabbings

Police investigated racial motive in Harlem assaults and stabbings as militant youths linked to Black Muslim movement faced homicide charges. Two white women, Magit Sugar and Eileen A Johnston, plus two white men were slain earlier, with no robbery. Authorities noted several racially charged cases under review.

Snyder Oil Field Worker Dies In North Flovanna Crash

A 22 year old Snyder resident Leslie Don Hatfield died at the scene of a one car crash seven miles north of Flovanna while riding with driver George Wayne Webster. Passenger David Fraley sustained a broken leg, Jackie Evans and Webster escaped with minor injuries. The car overturned after leaving the road on a hill and police investigated with Justice D C Roberts. Evans and Webster walked two miles to summon aid and Fraley was treated at Cogdell Hospital. Funeral services for Hatfield were set for Freer Assembly of God Church with burial in Freer Cemetery. Bell Seale Funeral Home arranged the service. Hatfield survived by his parents two sisters and three brothers.
