Dwayne Clawson and passenger Johnny Justiss survived a late Friday night crash when their Cherokee 180 clipped a telephone line at Winston Field. The craft nosed into the field, damaging the nose gear and wing while the pilots received facial injuries. A portrait of William Henry Snyder, namesake of Snyder, was dedicated at the Scurry County Public Library in a Friday ceremony. Local figures and students attended, with remarks tracing Snyder's 19th century trading post roots, buffalo-hunter era, and later life near Dunn, while artist Liz Bell described the portrait’s creation from period photos.

Snyder High School clinched the UIL title at Sweetwater by noon Saturday with 109 points, two debate finalists, and strong showings in speech and one act play. Levelland trailed with 79 points, while Sweetwater, Brownfield, Lamesa, Littlefield, Lake View, and Dunbar followed in order. Royce Starnes earned outstanding actor honors, and SHS won the one act play prize for The Crucible.
