Oklahoma City AP reports Gene Leroy Hart found innocent of three Girl Scout sex slayings at a northeastern Oklahoma summer camp. The verdict ends a long trial with Hart exonerated of the 1977 case.
A bomb blast outside the House of Commons killed Airey Neave, a Tory MP and ally of Margaret Thatcher. The incident stunned London as authorities investigated the explosion and its political implications.
In a column by Jerry Tidwell the trial of a coon dog case is recalled for an eloquent speech by ex Confederate senator George Graham West who later joined the U S Senate. The jurors awarded illegal damages later reversed by a court.
In Snyder High School auditorium Ira McCaulley and Sheila Jeffrey led district honors in class B one-act contest. Kevin Huddleston of Ira won Best Actor, Sheila Jeffrey Best Actress. Winning plays advance to April 7 area at Cooper High, Lubbock.
Police Chief Bill Stone says hit and run cases are investigated. A sergeant handles all such investigations. Charges include failure to leave information at the scene with a possible fine of 1 to 200 dollars. If bodily injury results, a felony charge may be filed.
AFS service announces the cancellation of the Saturday brunch meeting. The schedule had planned an April 7 session at 7 a.m. at the Spanish Inn, but the event is called off.
A congressional study charges the Carter administration exaggerated the impact of the Iranian oil cutoff on U S supplies. It claims February imports rose by about 1 million barrels daily, based on IEA data, while energy secretary James Schlesinger disputed the finding. The report notes the three month halt but argues prices and supplies were not as affected.
At a special meeting Ray Peveler reported good response to personal property renditions. The board discussed assessments on unrendered property, authorized seeking a tax attorney, and set procedures for collections within four years. Dealers blue book values will be used for automobile values and two highest valued cars may be exempt if more than two exist. A personnel report from Jack Gorman was also heard.

Schools closed and residents within ten miles told to stay indoors as officials monitor readings and advise caution. Local air raid siren was unauthorized.
Snyder Chamber of Commerce leaders presented a positive report on a prospective industry after a two year plant operation in another city. Attendees included Board of County Development, city and county officials, and Scurry County Industrial Foundation members. The visit noted a clean site with no odors, nearby residences, and no air pollution. Officials emphasized community acceptance as key to site selection and discussed possible promotion strategies.
