District Meet Set for Saturday at Snyder High School
Hundreds of students and faculty from area schools travel to Snyder for the district Interscholastic League contests. Literary and public speaking contests, the District 3 AAA track meet, and the district tennis tournament will be held with winners advancing to regional competitions. Debaters include Snyder’s Johnny Mitchell and Dick Hartman in boys division and Connie Koonce and Rita Reon in girls. other competitors include Brenda Boyd and Mary Beth Capps Reon. Events begin at 9 am with coverage across Sweetwater and La Mesa, Colorado City, Lake View participants invited.

Estes and Four Others Jailed On Federal Conspiracy
In Pecos Texas federal authorities jailed Billie Sol Estes and three West Texans on a conspiracy charge related to forged chattel mortgages. Estes bond set at 500000 dollars, others held on 250000 dollars each. The arrests followed a state probe ordered by Atty. Gen. Will Wilson.
