The Swiss government imposed a ban on hoarding export and melting of silver coins after speculators drained coins with 30 percent more silver than other European coins. Banks and stores reported a rush for one, two, five franc coins and the 50 centimes. Several million francs worth may have moved, with profits around 36 percent.

Esther James widow’s attorney sought to revoke Adam Clayton Powell III’s parole after his return from exile and Harlem parade. Powell spoke of a potential civil conflict over race while denying a summer race war.
Official observance of History Appreciation Week to start at 3 p.m. with the dedication of historical markers on the courthouse square. The Scurry County Historical Survey Committee plans events for a week. Tomorrow features the Camp Springs marker dedication at Camp Springs cross roads, about 12 miles east of Snyder.
The U N Security Council condemned Israel for last week's attack on Arab guerrilla bases in Jordan, but Israel said it acted in self defense. The vote, at its eighth meeting in four days, deplored all violent incidents violating the 1967 cease fire and warned of possible steps under the UN charter to prevent repetition.

American helicopter gunships and fighter bombers hit 245 sampans carrying weapons and food for Viet Cong in the Mekong Delta over three days. Gunships destroyed 114 sampans and damaged 50 near a base camp near the Cambodian border, with 20 Viet Cong and 43 huts reported as losses. two irregulars wounded. Separate strikes near Sa Dec and near Khe Sanh left multiple enemy casualties and two downed U S Marines helicopters.
