Two Hurt In Auto Train Crash At City Tracks

Legislature Pays Tribute To Heitman Jr.
The Texas Legislature adjourned briefly today to allow members to attend Rep. Charlie Heitman Jr.’s funeral in Nacogdoches. Heitman, 55, collapsed at his desk in the House and died after a heart attack, prompting tributes from Gov. Price Daniel and lawmakers. All Roads Blocked In Amarillo Area

Texas saw at least 13 deaths over the weekend from traffic crashes and a fatal shooting. Weather contributed to several crashes including a crash near Dumas that killed John McAllister and a head on collision near Springtown killing Johnny Pickets. Willie King died in Houston when his pickup skidded into a ditch. Elsie Jones died near Monahans in a road accident. George Tims was shot dead in Houston after an argument.

Prisoner Injured in Shower Fall at County Jail
Tommy Earl Lindsey, a prisoner in the county jail, suffered a severe foot injury yesterday when he slipped in the shower and struck a coffee can used for liquid soap. His toe was almost severed and doctors at Cogdell Memorial Hospital removed it. The accident happened around noon. Lindsey remained in the hospital this morning. He was serving time for swindle by worthless check.
