Gov Bill Clements weighs a Senate approved bill creating a deep water port off Freeport for super tankers. The 31 to 0 Senate vote followed House changes. Clements said he will study the measure and may sign it though favoring private operation of the port.
The AFL-CIO and nine unions plan to file in federal court to invalidate Carter’s voluntary wage price guidelines. They seek to remove the program’s one enforcement tool, the denial of federal contracts to noncomplying firms, as illegal.
Austin AP report says House members started work on a 1978 Tax Relief Amendment bill including tax breaks for the elderly and disabled and a property tax exemption for two family cars. The bill was laid out late Monday for explanation only.

First quarter generated 10 725 contact hours across Adult Vocational Education, Adult Basic Education and community services. Snyder Chamber of Commerce collects letters from citizens to back a major industry seeking sites in Snyder and two other cities. Chamber leaders meet with Western Texas College officials to discuss the prospect, its requirements, and potential economic impact as plans call for a four phase plant starting with 150 to 200 workers and reaching 1000.

President Carter concluded a six day trip by claiming a peace breakthrough with Egypt and Israel though a formal treaty remained pending. Anwar Sadat accepted U S promised proposals for resolving remaining issues and Menachem Begin said he would put the compromises to his cabinet for approval at the earliest opportunity. Begin foresees a treaty this month if the cabinet and Knesset approve the draft accord. Byrd said Carter briefed him from air force one on the talks.
The Snyder School Board meets at 7:30 p.m. in the administration building to consider contracts for principals and assistant principals, delayed February items, and appointments for a tax equalization board. Also on the agenda are contracts for assistant superintendents, athletic director, tax assessor-collector, maintenance director, and food service director, along with tax rendition forms for personal property.
A nine man three woman Scurry County grand jury returned twenty indictments Monday afternoon. Arthur Lee Harding faced three forgery by passing counts for forged checks on Kathy Reynolds’s Snyder National Bank account. James C. Holland, Gabriel Gonzales Torres, and others faced additional forgery by passing burglary and assault charges. The panel also indicted several for driving while intoxicated and theft. one case was no billed. Grand jury members listed include Elizabeth Jenkins and others.
Howard Sterling of Ira was unanimously appointed to fill a vacancy on the Scurry County Junior College District Board of Trustees. He will take the oath at the next regular meeting on April 9, following the death of Bentley Baize last Sept 4.
