A federal judge in Montgomery, Alabama, rejected Sheriff James G. Clark's motion to hold Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in contempt for leading a street march in Selma. The judge said contempt matters are between the court and the alleged contemnor, not the sheriff.

Born Oct 5 1887 in Parker County he served in the Texas legislature 1917 1921 and again 1953 1955 Representing his district he held county offices in Snyder and Weatherford with a long legal career and family survivors including wife Nora and children Gordon David and two daughters Funeral services are set for 3 p m Friday at First Baptist Church Hillside Memorial Gardens burial under Bell Seale Funeral Home guidance.

Reed was transported for emergency surgery at the University of Alabama Medical Center. He received condolences and messages from national figures.
About a dozen civil rights advocates staged a sit-in at the White House today. Demonstrators, white and Black, entered the executive mansion with tourists, sat on the ground-floor hallway, and chanted We shall not be moved as Maj. Ralph Stover and White House police urged them to leave. The protest began before noon and marked an unprecedented event at the White House.

London AP report says the queen intends to visit the Duke of Windsor and his Duchess, Wallis Warfield Simpson, in Britain despite a royal boycott. The Duke, recovering from his fourth major operation in three months and eye surgery, is deemed too ill to meet. The Duchess has rarely been received by the royal family, and speculation grows over the first possible encounter.
Scurry County Heart Association members learned on Wednesday that the Heart Fund campaign surpassed 2800 dollars, marking a fourth straight year above its fair share. With months left in the fiscal year the group is ahead of its 2784 quota and discussed a nurses heart seminar and plans for the annual May meeting and nominations for officers.
