Tiger baseball coach Speedy Moffett announced at noon today that tomorrow's game against Abilene will be played at Towle Memorial Park on the Diamond with a 4 15 start time.
Betsy the 7 year old chimp continued her art dabbling as sales rise. Receipts total 145 with a single piece at 50 and a bid for around 600 to fund a mate and other animals. Zoo director Arthur Watson notes strong inquiries and a public sale record since 1953 with 17 canvasses sold and ten discarded.
The Associated Press reports a weekend death toll of 28 in Texas from traffic crashes and violent incidents. Victims include families from Lewisville and Tyler, a drowning near Houston, shootings in Fort Worth and Paris, a drowning in the Sabine River, and multiple fatal car wrecks across the state.
The Supreme Court, in a 6 3 decision, reinstated an indictment accusing the United Automobile Workers of using union funds to pay for political TV broadcasts on WJBR-TV Detroit in 1954. The ruling overturned Judge Picard who had dismissed the case, and Justices Frankfurter Reed Burton Clark Harlan Brennan formed the majority while Douglas with Warren and Black dissented.
The Ira High School junior class presents a mystery comedy in three acts titled Pleased To Meetcha tomorrow night in the Ira gymnasium. Curtain rises at 8 p.m. Directors are Marie Otto, Mary Alice McCowan and Tommy Reid. Admission 25 and 50 cents.
Tickets for the high school production of Oklahoma are selling briskly with sales beginning this weekend. The auditorium seats about 1,100 per night and all seats are reserved at 1 dollar each, with roughly 800 sold so far across the three performances Thursday to Saturday.
Sunday high 80 and low 47 with a trace of rain and a 7 30 a m reading of 48. West Texas skies remain generally fair through Tuesday as cooler air settles tonight with lows near 30 in the Panhandle and South Plains.
Severe weather swept through Texas with a small tornado near Jollyville north of Austin and widespread thundershowers. Widespread gusts up to 77 mph caused damage and heavy rainfall with several locations reporting over half an inch. The Weather Bureau issued a widespread tornado warning and dust storms reduced visibility in the Panhandle.
The Texas House Banking Committee plans to decide tonight on a bill to regulate drive in banking. Rep Reagan Huffman Marshall rewrote the bill to allow drive in facilities not as branches if within 400 feet of the central bank, connected by tunnel or carrier, and in the same or adjoining blocks. Huffman says increased drive in use has hindered service and traffic flow in cities.
Russell Yorgesen, a certified public accountant, was hired by the county commissioners court to perform a two year audit of 1955 and 1956 books. The court opened bids for a road and bridge department maintainer and accepted Plains Machinery Co. low bid of 6,610 for a Model 503 Galion with trade in of an American maintainer.
Jakarta reports the Indonesian government plans to resign after a meeting of coalition parties led by Premier Ali Sastroamidjojo. South Sumatra joins the rebellion as Lt. Col. Barlan accuses the government of incompetence and delay in reforms. Sukarno may mediate to preserve his guided democracy amid anti Communist pressure.

A strong earthquake struck the Volos area in central Greece causing panic among residents. No casualties were reported in Volos. Velestino saw collapsed buildings from last week’s shocks. Earlier quakes left one dead, about fifty injured, and twenty five thousand homeless as four thousand homes were destroyed.
A second strong quake rattled the Aleutians Saturday at 7 20 23 p m PST with UC Berkeley seismograph readings continuing. Mt Visidos on Unmak Island showed smoke as officials linked it to the quake. Hawaii suffered 154 homeless on Kauai 4000 isolated by washed out bridges with unofficial damage up to two million dollars. Nine foot waves hit Hokkaido and a San Diego Bay boat slip was uprooted causing five thousand dollars in damage. No direct deaths reported though two reporters died in a plane crash while photographing waves.
