Odessa High School capped the sweepstakes trophy at Snyder High School Debate Tournament. Odessa boys Hestand and Wall won first while Andrews and Lubbock schools shared runner up. Thirty six teams from 11 schools competed with about 250 people involved.

Vinson Rites Held At Ira
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ira Baptist Church for Charlie Clay Vinson Sr. 58 who died Friday evening at Cogdell Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Orville E. Coleman and the Rev. Joy Haynes officiated. Burial followed in Ira Cemetery under Bell Funeral Home direction. Survivors include wife Nora Vinson two daughters Olivia Douglass and Genella Henderson four sons Bob John Edgar and Charles Clay Jr a sister and six brothers. Pallbearers were Charlie Jones Alton Sumruld Travis Cox Whit Farmer Gus Sterling and J E K Maupin.

Cool Front Moving In From Arizona to Texas
A new cool front moved toward Texas from Arizona Saturday promising another round of needed rain. The Weather Bureau forecast showers may develop tonight in Southwest and Deep South Texas, spreading Sunday to the northeast. Temperatures ranged from the mid 50s to the high 70s with bright sun elsewhere. Cloudiness expected to increase tonight and Sunday with rain likely in western and northern Texas where moisture is needed most.

Largest Dynamite Factory Blows Up
In Johannesburg, the Modderfontein explosion shattered the brick wall 11 miles away. The blasts at the world’s largest dynamite factory killed a white worker, left four or five Africans missing, and injured 27 others. Police ruled out sabotage and cause remained unknown.

Lamar Junior High of Snyder won the sweepstakes trophy at the Lamesa Band Festival. The Lamar band directed by Don Eiring placed first in concert playing and sight reading.
