Cory Moore, an ex Marine and auto worker, seized a white policeman and pressed for a call with President Carter to discuss his plan to free his people from oppression and to have whites leave the earth within a week. Police telephoned the White House to arrange the contact.
President Carter will travel to Europe for an international economic summit in London in early May. He plans to stay on after the May 7 8 meetings to confer with NATO leaders.
Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's Pakistan People's party won 156 of 216 seats in the general election with 16 additional seats reserved for women and minorities. An opposition leader charged the victory was marred by widespread rigging. The party held 107 seats in the previous parliament.
The Region V Junior College Basketball Tournament won by WTC Westerners drew coaches from senior colleges and universities. Abilene hosted the event with fan backing led by Roy Sallee and Walker Bailey, while the women’s and men’s divisions ran through the week, highlighting junior colleges as stepping stones to larger programs.
