North Korean batteries shot down an American Sabre jet near the truce line. The pilot parachuted just over the Communist side. A second F86 returned to base. The incident occurred during a low level mission about 65 miles northeast of Seoul.
Candidates filed with County Judge Edgar Taylor for county and Hermleigh school boards ahead of the April 5 election. County board has three seats with two incumbents Hugh Taylor and Blake Walker running, plus new candidate C. B. Bley. Hermleigh adds Guy Joyce Adams and Arthur Pieper. Absentee voting runs March 15 to three days before election.

Panmunjom Korea North Korea released 26 passengers and crew from a South Korean DC3 after a hijack on February 16 by at least five Communist agents. The group included two American pilots Willis Hobbs and Howard McClellan and a West German couple. Eight Koreans remained with the North. The released faced medical checks. Hobbs cried to see his family.
The city fire department installs a newer pump on the Spot Muse Spot Muse fire truck replacing an older worn unit. Fire Chief D. A. Porter notes improved capability for petroleum or chemical fires and overall firefighting ability.
Cape Canaveral Moonwatch teams joined a sky search for the Army’s Explorer II satellite, amid reports the four stage rocket’s final stage failed to fire. Officials suggested the satellite may not have reached orbit, with possibilities including an unstable path or radio failure. Expert comments came from von Braun’s camp, JPL, Smithsonian, and University of Iowa astronomer James Van Allen.
Russian premier Bulganin sent a new message to President Eisenhower via Ambassador Menshikov on summit conference arrangements. Menshikov said the note may be published in Moscow tomorrow and referenced Eisenhower's Feb 15 letter. The dispatch followed Dulles’ briefing and a press club appearance.
Two youths, Johnny Spaine of Roswell New Mexico and George W Richards of Rhode Island, are jailed on felony car theft charges after being found in New Mexico. They face bonds of $1000 each set by Peace Justice W C Davidson on arraignment. The 1957 Chevrolet owned by Garrett Harrell disappeared from a parking place on Twenty fifth Street last Thursday and was recovered with a burned out transmission. Sheriff Earl Abercrombie returned the pair. Harrell's insurer is handling the claim.
Speaker Rayburn said the House committee will not invite Senators Kefauver Holland and Smathers to testify on the Miami TV channel 10 dispute as part of the FCC inquiry. He argued the senators have their own avenues to testify on the matter and urged them to testify if invited by their own Senate committees.

Snyder High School stage band leaves at noon for Brownwood to compete Saturday in the State Stage Band Contest. It has won its class for five straight years, competing in Class AAAA this year with bands from Fort Worth Dallas and Houston among others. judges include Vincent DiNino and Dr. Gene Halli.
In Abilene a man Kenneth Neal 28 and his wife Mary 26 were found dead in a car on a country road five miles south of the city about 8 30 a.m. Each had fatal gunshot wounds and a pistol was in Neal s left hand. Justice of Peace H F Long expected to render a verdict later today. Records show Neal was an airman at Dyess Air Force Base last June and believed discharged since.
A new trial was ordered today in a damage suit over two elementary school spankings that Doris Frazier, then 12, said bruised and embarrassed her. Judge Byron Johnson granted the new trial after Mrs. Juanita Duff’s attorneys argued more evidence exists.
