The Texas Senate approved a 200 million dollar water development fund to aid drought relief and conserve water resources. The measure allows state bonds up to 100 million with possible 100 million more. it returns to the House for concurrence before voter approval.
Police investigate multiple thefts including a $350 recording trumpet owned by Tim Dennis band director at Junior High School. thefts include $16 from Melvin Montgomery band office, four hub caps from Andrew James, a wheel and tire from A M McMasters, and window shootings suspected to involve air rifles per Police Chief Travis Steele.
Southeastern Wyoming wakes to a six inch snow carpet halting traffic north, west and south from Cheyenne. Temperatures range from zero at Casper to 2 above at Cheyenne and Laramie as 45 mph winds pile drifts. Plows and crews clear highways. no serious accidents or stranded motorists reported.
17 Snyder Public School staff members received service pins for 10 to 25+ years as the Classroom Teachers Association installed new officers. W. A. Mayfield became CTA president, with Hattie Gatlin and others in new roles. Dr. John McFarland stressed the value of public schools and urged ongoing teacher education.
A steel and wood bridge at Twenty-first Street over Deep Creek in Snyder is closed to traffic after rivets in steel trusses pulled out and the superstructure bent. City officials say it may have been damaged by a truck crash or earlier impact, with a hospitalized man named E. W. Cox. The closure reduces east west crossings to four remaining spans: Twenty-fifth, Twenty-sixth, Twenty-seventh and Thirty-seventh Streets.
Bergen County prosecutors announced a definite suspect is being questioned in the brutal slaying of 15 year old Victoria Zielinski near Ramsey New Jersey. Police found a pair of khaki pants and hair strands as clues amid tire tracks and a large bloodied rock by the gravel pit where she was killed. Father Anthony Zielinski vowed to find the killer as investigators pursue leads from friends and car impressions.
The Scurry County Chapter of the American Cancer Society outlines the annual Cancer Crusade with Joe Williamson as crusade chairman. An advance gift drive starts the last week of March, continuing through April, culminating in April 9 Texas Cancer Control Day with a house to house campaign. Dorothy Raine presided. The service committee reports a courthouse loan closet on the third floor offering sickroom items to patients via physicians.
Fire consumed a 1952 Pontiac owned by Nellie Thomas on the Lubbock Highway in north Snyder. Firemen said a flat tire likely sparked the blaze as the car was driven unaware of the tire failure.
Houston Le Roy Wilburn, 35, of San Antonio, died after falling from a motor boat on Lake McQueeny and being struck by the propeller. The incident occurred yesterday in Seguin, Texas.

In Conroe Texas last night an assailant threw acid at Dr. Robert E. McMeans Jr. 32, a chiropractor who testified in the bribery inquiry involving ex State Rep James E Cox. McMeans said the eye suffered no permanent damage and Cox connected the attack loosely to the probe. Police and Rangers questioned lookout witnesses as Cox expressed concern for his family.
The Defense Department said Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo Texas will stay in active operation and undergo extensive improvements. New runways are among planned construction projects. Senator Lyndon Johnson was informed of the work yesterday.
Dallas FBI chief says agents in St. Louis hold Sam Gold, a man suspected of transporting obscene motion pictures from Lewisville to Illinois. The film, about 100 feet, was processed at a Lake Dallas cabin found last Friday by FBI and Denton County officers, who uncovered an elaborate processing plant. The suspect was in Lewisville around February 22.
The State Highway Department in Austin reports 1 to 3 inches of snow in Amarillo district while Quanah Endures a blinding storm. Temperatures dip to 12 to 22 degrees with visibility under a quarter mile. Roads expected to ice over, creating hazardous driving conditions. Snow also reported in Collingsworth and Wheeler counties.
Weather reports indicate Tuesday high near 61 and low around 40 with a 40 degree reading at 7 30 am. Snow and colder conditions expected in Panhandle South Plains and West Texas Wednesday night with light rain and hail in places.
