Auto Train Crash Kills 3 Children
A west bound Baltimore and Ohio Railroad freight train struck a car carrying schoolchildren at an unguarded crossing in Carlyle. Three children from the Berry family, Irene 15 Phyllis 14 and Flora Kay 9, died. A 33-year old passenger died later. Eugene Higgins died in hospital. Driver Lester Berry 18 and brother Allen 7 were seriously injured. The car was bound for Carlyle grade school.
