Witmer Jean Ballard was condemned to die in the electric chair for the shotgun murder of Stephen Currie, a Glasscock County rancher. An eight-member jury deliberated nearly three hours for the punishment after an eight-day trial with 31 witnesses. Ballard protested his guilt as he was moved from Brewster County Jail to Midland.
