Defense headquarters said the army killed 164 Huks, captured 64 and wounded 74 last month, with 19 soldiers dead and 32 wounded. Headquarters also reported 358 Huks surrendered in February.

District attorney Bob Davie formally announced his candidacy for another term. Born January 12 1919 near Pauls Valley Oklahoma he served in the 40th Infantry Division earning a Purple Heart. Davie and his family live in Snyder with two young sons and he lists a pro justice platform and public service roles with local organizations.

A cold front swept through central and eastern Texas behind a squall line of thunderstorms bringing 80 mph winds in Fort Worth and damage across North Central Texas. Tornado reports were unconfirmed. winds interrupted power, toppled poles, broke trees, and damaged garages in Ridgelea. Snow and freezing drizzle followed in the Panhandle with lows near 21 in Dalhart and 24 in Amarillo, while Brownsville stayed sunny and 69. Temperatures were to fall further northward, with freezing expected north of a Shreveport to El Paso line.
The 0.10 inch rainfall on Saturday fell intermittently and totaled one third of January February, short by 0.2 inch to match January. Weather observer Mrs. D P Strayhorn logged 0.10 after rain, lifting year total to 40. High 74 yesterday, overnight low 39 at 7 30 this morning.
