British Polar Explorers Return After 477 Days At Sea
Four British explorers led by Wally Herbert arrived at Portsmouth aboard the Endurance after 477 days on polar ice. They described polar bears as the main danger, recalled shooting bears within 15 feet, and noted temperatures as low as 45 below zero while crossing from Alaska to a Blackbeard Island landing.

Three Hurt When Auto Overturns Near FM 1269
A 1955 Model Chevrolet overturned in a culvert on FM 1269 about 22 miles north of U S 180 injuring three people. Mrs Lois Calvert 57 the driver, Willie Barnett 68 and Melvin Ellison 14 were taken to Cogdell Memorial Hospital for treatment with abrasions and possible fractures or internal injuries. X rays were ordered.

Percy G. Anderson Jr. of Midland Texas is named unit superintendent of Monsanto Co s Diamond M unit in Snyder replacing C Kenneth Reeves who moves to Houston as drilling specialist. Anderson joins Monsanto after a 1950 Texas A M College mechanical engineering degree and previous posts in El Dorado Pratt Snyder and Midland. He and his wife Betty Jo and three children will relocate to Snyder soon.

Funeral service was held at 4 p.m. for Roy Stewart 1909 Thirtieth Street who died at 1 30 p.m. Saturday in Cogdell Memorial Hospital. The Rev Ira Harrison officiated at the First Baptist Church with Dr A B Lightfoot assisting. Burial followed at Snyder Cemetery under Bolger Funeral Home direction. Pallbearers were Rex Fields Elmer Taylor Jim Beavers Howard Harrington Roy Davis of Hobbs N M Lloyd Merritt Dee Walker and Bernard Longbotham. Surviving are his wife Louisa Porter Stewart three daughters Mrs John M Akers of San Jose Calif Miss Louray Stewart of Beaumont and Mrs George Lee of Snyder two sisters Mrs Amy Stimpson and Miss Cleo Stewart both of Jacksboro and five grandchildren. He was a World War I veteran.

Concessions Plans Due For Towle Park Fourth Fest
Organizations planning to run concession stands for the Towle Memorial Park Independence Day celebration must contact the Chamber of Commerce by Wednesday. Sites will be awarded by lot to those on the June 25 list. The Chamber has secured many prizes for the park event including a 23 inch RCA color TV from M&M Electronics. Over 20 additional prizes from local merchants will be awarded and the TV will be displayed at the Texas Electric Service Co. office until July 4.

Funeral service for Earl K. Sandy 68 retired Pure Oil Co superintendent was set for 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Snyder. He died at Cogdell Memorial Hospital after 46 years with Pure Oil and is survived by his wife, a daughter, a sister, three grandchildren and a great grandchild. Burial will be in Southern Heights Cemetery. Pallbearers listed.
