Madrid AP. Premier Adolfo Suarez led a center coalition to a plurality in Spain's first free elections in 41 years. With about 75 percent of votes counted, Suarez loyalists were projected to win 170 of 350 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, leaving no outright majority and needing cross party support.
Gov Dolph Briscoe says a special legislative session on school finance could start July 8 to allow a weekend for committee work. He noted the date remains under consideration during a Wednesday news conference in Austin.
At the Texas City Managers Association conference in Austin a health feature reviewed heart disease symptoms. A South Central Texas city manager shown to have all symptoms died of a heart attack that night. The piece also notes Henry VIII obesity and other light anecdotes.
In Moscow Brezhnev, at 70, becomes president while retaining general secretary control. Podgorny, 74, removed from the Politburo and retires on pension, with Brezhnev expected to handle routine duties as new constitution plans center on his leadership.
In Snyder, Roscoe Snyder and Pacific Railroad directors elected Mickey Nunley as president replacing Roger B. Mize who remains chairman. Nunley has been RS&P vice president for a year and joined the firm June 1 1976 after leading Snyder Chamber of Commerce for six years. He and wife Jo Ann have two children Rhonda a SHS graduate and Rollen an SHS student.
A 347 ton carbon steel reactor vessel arrived at the Comanche Peak plant site near Glen Rose after more than two years of construction and a month of travel. The vessel stands 44 feet tall and 22 feet in diameter with walls over eight inches thick. It traveled from Chattanooga to Houston by barge and then by a special rail car to the site. An identical vessel is under construction for Unit 2 and due next year. Comanche Peak is jointly owned by Texas Electric, Texas Power & Light and Dallas Power & Light subsidiaries to diversify away from natural gas.
Two cafeteria managers, Mary Beth Hicks of West Elementary and Joyce Smith of East Elementary, had their dismissals upheld by the school board after a hearing. The board voted 4 to 2 citing failure to follow instructions.
Snyder posted a May 27 rebate of 5,110.28, bringing year to date receipts to 209,544, ahead of last year’s pace. Area cities show varied totals with Sweetwater 164,622 and 45,283.96, Lamesa 152,904 and 42,345, Levelland 152,616 and 33,435, Pecos 134,390 and 39,573, Monahans 108,227 and 25,561, Colorado City 59,7?2 and 15,228, Rotan 19,610 and 7,573, Roscoe 8,489 and 2,108, Kobty 4,444 and 2,4403.

Gulf Oil officials testified before a House subcommittee that Gulf and its Canadian uranium subsidiary joined an international cartel in uranium price fixing. They said Canada compelled the Canadian unit to join, denying voluntary participation and arguing price rises stem more from regulations than cartel activity. The subcommittee released documents showing Gulf attendance at cartel meetings since 1972.
