Four whites attacked by youths at Johannesburg garage
Three black youths armed with automatics opened fire on four white men at a department store garage in Johannesburg. Two mechanics were killed and a third seriously wounded. Fire tragedy claim adds 162nd victim at Beverly Hills Club
Cincinnati AP report states Dan Barker of Southgate Kentucky died at General Hospital after the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire on May 28. Barker aged 29 had been in critical condition since the blaze. His wife Karen 24 remained in fair condition at St Luke Hospital. Janice Popp of Latonia Kentucky was still in critical condition.

Ray recaptured by bloodhounds near Brushy Mountain
James Earl Ray was tracked down by two bloodhounds after a 54 hour flight from Brushy Mountain State Prison. He was found in a leaf pile five miles from the prison, mud covered and exhausted, and surrendered without resisting. One fugitive remained at large as two others were recaptured in separate arrests in Oak Ridge and nearby areas.

Three Girl Scouts Found Dead At Camp Scott
Three young Girl Scouts aged eight, nine, and ten were beaten to death in their sleeping bags at Camp Scott near Locust Grove Oklahoma. Authorities from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said no suspects were identified and the investigation was being assisted by the State Bureau of Investigation and Mayes County officers. A Snyder couple, Mr and Mrs T C Rinehart, were hurt in a one vehicle crash at 12 40 am near the U S Highways 4 and 180 intersection southeast of Snyder. Mrs Rinehart remained at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in good condition, while Mr Rinehart was transferred to an Abilene hospital with steel fractures. A separate report notes former U S House Speaker Carl Albert was slightly injured in a hit and run incident and released from McAlester Hospital.
