Steel Workers Reject Offer in Time to Strike Looms
Washington AP United Steelworkers official said the union rejected the contract offer for 350000 workers as completely unacceptable. Negotiations continue with nine major firms ahead of a Saturday midnight strike deadline. Molony said little chance of extension without agreement and that leaders want a August settlement. Area Rains Continue in Snyder Region Across Week
Heavy rains drenched the Snyder area from late Thursday into today with amounts from one half to two inches, heaviest near Herrleigh at two inches. Snyder gauge showed .64 inch by 7 a.m. and more showers followed. Overnight rainfall varied from location to location, with Ira and Fluvanna reporting over an inch, while Lake J. B. Thomas Dam saw about an inch. The Colorado River near Silver flowed 82 feet deep as rain flooded roads south of Colorado City, and Lake E V Spence near Robert Lee rose on potential rainfall inflow. In Gail rainfall reached 1.60 inches as the pattern of slow, moderate runoff persisted.

Violent Weather Strikes Texas Areas Across Night
