Rodeo Stock Stakes and Parade Open Scurry County Event
The Scurry County Rodeo opened its 29th annual four day session with tough stock in the saddle bronc and bull riding events. Calf roping saw Tommy Bacon of Cisco win with 12.7 seconds while Ed Workman led bareback bronc riding with 64 points. The opening night included a downtown parade won by the Fireman's Auxiliary float, with several club and posse groups placing in later parade awards. Funeral services were held for Mrs Clarence Goebel of Hermleigh with burial in Hermleigh Cemetery.

Health Plan Expected To Whirl Through Congress
Washington AP reports a comprehensive health insurance bill will move through Congress after final language is prepared. It expands Social Security to cover hospitalization nursing home care and outpatient services for Americans over 65 while raising taxes to fund the program. By 1975 both employee and employer payroll taxes rise to 356.40 with a 7 percent increase in benefits and a new federal supplementary program to cover major medical costs.

Texas Republicans seek to void plan in court challenge
Nine Republicans from six counties petitioned a federal three judge court to reject the 1965 congressional redistricting plan and redraw districts in a fair, impartial, scientific manner. The court had given parties until Aug. 2 to reapportion on population basis. Secretary of State Crawford Martin noted no further intervenors were allowed.

Survey at Lake Thomas Aims to Guide State Recreation Plan
Lake Thomas leads a survey of 30 Texas reservoirs to gather data for a comprehensive water and recreation plan. Mrs. Rosa Coleman Dies at 96 in Scurry County Rites Friday
Rosa Lee Coleman 96 a longtime Scurry County resident died at Cogdell Memorial Hospital. She leaves two daughters a stepdaughter a son and two stepsons along with 13 grandchildren 23 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral is 10 a m Friday at First Methodist Church with interment at Snyder Cemetery under Bolger Funeral Home. Gifts to heart fund memorials urged.
