The U S federal government will ease regulations on mortgage credit starting Aug 1, allowing the savings and loan industry to offer an additional 600 million dollars in home loans. Officials say further easing could follow as they expect slower growth and seek to support the housing market and economy.

Snyder area reports Tuesday highs around 95 and lows near 70 with 7 am reading of 71. Northwest Texas expects clear to partly cloudy skies with a few thundershowers, highs 94 to 103 Thursday, tonight 66 to 76. Northeast and North Central Texas remain warm with similar patterns and highs around 90 to 102, lows 72 to 76. South Central to Southeast Texas stay warm with isolated showers, highs 87 to 96, tonight in the 70s. Southwest Texas east of the Pecos remains fair with highs in the 90s and isolated afternoon thundershowers.
Hearne Edward Smith, 33, a convicted murderer, was captured after a Tuesday escape attempt following a deputy’s knife and blunt force assault near Snyder. City marshal Alvin Pittman and Hale Center officer W A Hatfield stopped him near the Basin Wax plant after a brush search. Smith faced assault with intent to murder charges and was jailed in Scurry County, with prior recapture leading to a 60 year sentence per AP.
Kay Bradshaw 22 and her 2 year old son Gregory were injured in a single vehicle crash on the U S 84 bypass east of the north inlet from FM 1673. The 1967 Dodge driven by Phyllis Nelson Fuller of Fort Worth overturned. damage listed at 2200 dollars. The injured were moved to a doctor’s office for treatment with minor injuries reported. A second minor crash on Avenue S at Twenty sixth Street involved a 1962 Chevrolet and a 1963 Dodge with 60 and 40 dollars damage respectively.
American officials describe the Honolulu meeting between President Johnson and South Vietnam's Nguyen Van Thieu as a routine review session with no urgent political or military stakes. Officials expect private talks and potential Vietnamese surprises, recalling past Guam and Honolulu encounters.
AP dispatch from Paris reports United States envoy Harriman pressing North Vietnam to define actions after possible end of bombing. A National Airlines DC8 traveling from Houston was hijacked over Texas by a Cuban man who threatened to blow the plane with a grenade and forced a landing at Jose Marti Airport in Havana. The hijacker, described by the pilot as Cuban, was the first off the aircraft wearing a yellow shirt. The plane carried 64 people including 57 passengers and 7 crew. A passenger or crew member was removed in a stretcher, delaying return to the United States.

Mrs. Lil Jo Colwell, 68, longtime Snyder resident, died about 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Lodge. Funeral services set for 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Dr. A. B. Lightfoot officiating. Burial in Snyder Cemetery under Bell Seale Funeral Home. She is survived by a sister Mrs. Henry Kelly, a half sister Mrs. Doris Shuck, and brothers Frank A. Wilson and Emmett Wilson.
The annual Scurry County Rodeo opens tonight at the local grounds with performances daily through Saturday at 8 p m The downtown parade kicks off at 5 p m today followed by nightly rodeo dances at the pavilion next to the arena.
