30th Annual Rodeo Opens Wednesday In Scurry County
The Scurry County Rodeo Association hosts its 30th annual four night event starting Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the rodeo grounds west of town with a downtown parade at 4 p.m. featuring prize floats, riders, and groups. Cash prizes go to top parade floats and there is a western band and specialty act each evening. Cowboys compete in calf roping steer riding team tying bronc bareback and wild mare race while cowgirls race barrels and a junior goat sacking contest occurs for local youths. Rowne in Scurry County report a Pennsylvanian lime oil discovery from the No. 1 Midland in section 151, with 190 barrels daily from 6,825 to 6,829 feet and a 670 to 1 gas-oil ratio. The Cobb-Rowne pool opened nearby yielded 193 barrels of 42.5 gravity oil on a 20 to 64 inch choke. Other wildcat sites near Clairemont and Shamrock area report Canyon reef lime tests and recompletions with varying production, while Sojourner Drilling reentered the Edward B. Burke well in Fisher County to 5,297 feet with 75 barrels daily.
