Eight student nurses were strangled and stabbed to death in a Southeast Side dormitory in a crime the FBI labeled the worst in memory. A survivor hid under a bed as a blond, six foot one, 170 pound man sought money for New Orleans and fled the scene. Victims ranged 21 to 23 and included nurses from the Philippines and Illinois. suspects were later detained after an apparent attempt to buy airline tickets.
