Snyder Sailor Awarded Bronze Star for Heroic Action
Yeoman 1st Class Martin Powledge of Snyder received the Bronze Star Medal for heroism aboard the USS Liberty during the June 8 1967 attack in the eastern Mediterranean. Powledge exposed himself to fire on the bridge to aid injured sailors and relay vital information through the air attack and post attack phases. He attended Snyder High School and enlisted in 1964.

Banff Fire Threatens Lodge as 5,000-Acre Blaze Grows
