About 120 farm workers marching 24 miles reached San Juan after a 90 degree day demanding higher pay. The strikers, part of a Starr County melon workers dispute, seek $1.25 per hour, above 85 cents to $1. A Mass and statement from Bishop Humberto Medeiros were planned. Edinburg Mayor Al Ramirez greeted them.

Trio Quizzed In 2 Slayings in Texas Case
Three suspects Claude Dean Edwards Ronald Wilhelm and Gene McCain were jailed without bond in Breckenridge for murder as they were questioned about a second slaying in San Antonio. The victims were Clarence Swaim 55 and Alvin Fay Carnes 26 a bridegroom of three weeks. Carnes body was found in a pasture after an abandoned service station robbery.
