Juanita Castro claims Fidel Castros regime holds 741,588 political prisoners including 5,282 women. John Martino said the figure came by telephone from Mexico City, where Miss Castro is in exile, after defecting from the regime and helping free prisoners.

Texas led with 39,000 fewer acres and New Mexico added 22,000. forecasts imply a possible 14.7 million bales if yields match last year, with 15,327,000 bales produced last year and 1,1250.00 for the 1957-61 average.

Longbotham becomes Director of Guidance coordinating testing. assistant principals’ stipends rise to 75 monthly. several transfers and new hires approved at Lamar, North Elementary, Travis and other campuses. The board also boosts the girls summer recreation program by 500.
A 288400 shipment of uncut diamonds disappeared from Shannon International Airport over the weekend and was not detected for 48 hours. Interpol was asked to assist in locating the jewels, which arrived Friday from Amsterdam en route to New York on a KLM jet. A well dressed man with a foreign accent claimed to be from the diamond company and accepted the package after signing required documents.
Gov William Scranton declared Senator Barry Goldwater disqualified himself as a Republican candidate for president by saying he could not beat President Johnson. Scranton cited a Spiegel magazine interview quoted as obtained June 30 and said he would pursue the GOP nomination in San Francisco.
